Hamad bin Khalifa University’s Juris Doctor (JD) program delivers a unique model of graduate legal education to meet the needs of Qatar and the region The JD is the first-of-its-kind graduate law degree in the MENA region and has been created through a strategic partnership with Northwestern University School of Law. It is the standard first professional graduate law degree in the U.S. as well as an increasing number of other countries. A JD differs from an undergraduate law degree in that it targets individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree, which can be in any subject (including law).
The JD is comparable with the best of those offered internationally and equips its graduates with a high level of legal knowledge and the skills that go with such knowledge, thereby enabling them to make the most of a wide range of career options in the public sector, multinational institutions, and in academia.
- An in-depth look at the conceptual theory of law: why are laws made and how have the different legal systems around the law developed? How do different systems differ and where are the similarities?
- Students will be given a comprehensive education in the function of law, whether in Qatar, the region, or internationally.
- There will be considerable focus on the application of law, ensuring that practical skills are developed, in addition to theoretical understanding of legal issues and concepts.
