The Online LL.M. for Active Professionals Graduates of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) program at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law hold important positions in government, NGO’s, academia, and the private sector around the globe. Pitt Law is excited to extend its LL.M. program through an online course delivery option. This option will offer Pitt Law’s highly regarded LL.M. degree through a collaborative learning platform that allows students to earn their degree on a part-time basis over two years. Students who are not able to devote a full year away from their jobs and homes now have the opportunity to gain an understanding of common law legal systems and international commercial law that will enhance their career opportunities. By taking 6 credits per semester over two academic years, with the option of a two-week residential study program after the first year, students can take advantage of the opportunity to earn a Pitt Law LL.M. while minimizing the intrusion on their lives.

Cost & Fees


The programmed is billed on a per credit basis. Each student will be expected to complete 24 credits over two years. The estimated total cost of tuition for four semesters of part-time study is approximately $35,000. Exact per credit tuition rates can be found at the University’s tuition page which is linked from the CILE website, and participation in the residential two-week option is additional.

Entry Requirements

Students must complete 24 credits to graduate. The program is completed in two academic years. The assigned curriculum will satisfy all necessary requirements for the degree, including:

  • Students are required to take U.S. Legal Analysis & Writing (3 credits; Fall Semester of the First Year) and Introduction to American Law (3 credits; Fall Semester of the First Year).
  • Each student must complete a faculty supervised writing project, either in a seminar or as an independent study.


Applicants are admitted to the LL.M program based on their ability to thrive in a demanding, competitive academic atmosphere, as evidenced by their academic record and professional accomplishments. The program accepts applications from lawyers with a law degree from a non-U.S. law school that can demonstrate a proficiency in English, as measured by minimum scores of 100 IBT 250 CBT and 600 PBT on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a minimum score of 7.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until the class has been filled. While we suggest that you submit your application by March 31 of the year in which you would like to begin your studies in order to receive full consideration, we will work with you to make your goals possible on your schedule.
