Introduction

Why the University of Exeter?

‘Exeter’s success is richly deserved…it has consistently embodied the very best in British Higher education.’ Alastair McCall, Editor of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide

1. A top ranking UK university, with a growing global reputation

We are a Russell Group university ranked 7th in the The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide and in the top one per cent of universities in the world (Times Higher Education). We score particularly highly for ‘international outlook’ and the University welcomes staff and students from over 130 countries.

The experience of our overseas students is second to none: in 2015 we won the ‘International Student Choice’ award (WhatUni).

Our reputation benefits all our postgraduates who successfully complete their programme or research: the employability rate of our postgraduates actually rose during the recession and our postgraduates are regularly employed with a range of blue chip organisations.

2. Degree programmes developed from leading research

We offer over 150 postgraduate programmes. Please see the programme pages here for full details of available opportunities as well as information on funding and fees and contact us using the enquiry form for further information.

We are the fastest growing research-intensive university in the UK. Ninety-eight per cent of our research is of international quality and world-leading research can be found in all our subject areas (Research Exercise Framework, 2014). Our postgraduate research students and early career researchers contributed to a large proportion of these papers. All PhD and doctoral students benefit from the support and training provided by our Doctoral College.

Prospective PhD students can find out more about studying for a PhD through the online module available on Exeter’s website. Alternatively please use the enquiry form on this page to contact us for more information.

Masters students also benefit from our research strength as often are lecturers are also our researchers – those writing the books and research papers. The teaching and knowledge received is at the forefront of knowledge and you will benefit from access to the latest thinking, equipment and resources.

3. Scholarships and funding

We offer over 100 fully-funded PhD studentships annually, most of which are open to EU students and some are made available to international students. We also offer numerous scholarships – normally competitive and merit-based – to Masters students. The total package this year exceeds over £500,000 this year, opening up the opportunity for a Masters degree from the University of Exeter to many.

Contact us for information on available scholarships.

4. Beautiful campuses and the ideal postgraduate study environment

We provide postgraduates with an inspiring and supportive environment in which to study for a Masters or PhD degree.

Two campuses are based in the historic city of Exeter while the Penryn Campus near Falmouth offers the very latest academic, research and residential facilities.

A safe, student-friendly city, Exeter is consistently rated one of the best places to live in the UK for the quality of its facilities, low crime rate and fantastic countryside, while students based in Cornwall study at a campus where the environment and sustainability underpin much of the research and teaching, in county renowned for its glorious coast and natural beauty.

In order to maintain our growing international reputation, we are investing significantly in the very latest facilities. Iconic new buildings like the Forum have been created through a £475 million investment programme in new buildings, research centres, student residences and campus facilities.

But ambition and success have not changed the University’s charisma, or the attractiveness of its campuses. Ask any Exeter graduate about their memories and many will talk about the friendliness of staff and students. First class teaching and research combine with a relaxed and approachable atmosphere.

Postgraduates are an integral part of the University and are well represented through the award winning Students’ Guild. This offers Masters students support through the Postgraduate Forum and Postgraduate Society as well as a wide range of clubs and societies.

‘There is energy, dynamism and talent at Exeter in great abundance.’ Jonathan Dimbleby, Broadcaster, Honorary Graduate
