Program Description

Bachelor in Law for Business

University of Lincoln

The Course

This degree aims to introduce the fundamental elements of the law and provide students who plan to work in a business environment with a solid appreciation of the commercial and business contexts in which law is applied.

It is increasingly relevant for graduates who enter the legal profession or into the world of business to have a broad knowledge of a wide range of subjects. This degree aims to provide students who have a particular interest in the law with commercial knowledge and business expertise.

Lincoln Law School aims to provide a vibrant, academic environment and engage students with contemporary legal challenges whilst equipping them with critical and analytical skills applicable to a wide range of professions.

How You Study

Students on the LLB (Hons) Law for Business can study the full range of core legal disciplines. This includes contract law, law of tort, constitutional and administrative law, land law, and equity and trusts.

Over the course of the degree, subjects covered may include an introduction to law and business, company and finance law, law of business transactions, and business management for lawyers: strategy and operation.

  • Contact Hours and Reading for a Degree

Students on this programme learn from academic staff who are often engaged in world-leading or internationally excellent research or professional practice. Contact time can be in workshops, practical sessions, seminars or lectures and may vary from module to module and from academic year to year. Tutorial sessions and project supervision can take the form of one-to-one engagement or small group sessions. Some courses offer the opportunity to take part in external visits and fieldwork.

It is still the case that students read for a degree and this means that in addition to scheduled contact hours, students are required to engage in independent study. This allows you to read around a subject and to prepare for lectures and seminars through wider reading, or to complete follow up tasks such as assignments or revision. As a general guide, the amount of independent study required by students at the University of Lincoln is that for every hour in class you are expected to spend at least two to three hours in independent study.

How You Are Assessed

  • Assessment Feedback

  • Methods of Assessment

The way students are assessed on this course may vary for each module. Examples of assessment methods that are used include coursework, such as written assignments, reports or dissertations; practical exams, such as presentations, performances or observations; and written exams, such as formal examinations or in-class tests. The weighting given to each assessment method may vary across each academic year. The University of Lincoln aims to ensure that staff return in-course assessments to students promptly.
