The Doctor of Jurisprudence or Juris Doctor degree is a first professional graduate degree awarded for completing two to four years of law school. After passing a bar examination, a JD graduate may practice law in a number of different areas.
The dual degree of a PhD and Juris Doctor provides students with the ability to earn two degrees at the same time. It allows for the combination of a law degree, in the form of a JD, as well as a PhD degree in a further area of study. It allows the student to study in two faculties and/or schools within the same university to earn additional education beyond.
