The Doctor of Jurisprudence or Juris Doctor degree is a first professional graduate degree awarded for completing two to four years of law school. After passing a bar examination, a JD graduate may practice law in a number of different areas.
Graduates holding a Juris Doctor degree have completed a course of study in law. Some countries require degree-holders to pass additional exams before they are allowed to practice law, but the Juris Doctor degree is sufficient in many countries.
