LLB (Hons) Law

University of Greenwich

Program Description

LLB (Hons) Law

University of Greenwich

Please note that the information on this site relates to the programme commencing in September 2016.

The LLB Hons Law programme is a three-year qualifying law degree. Successful completion of the degree will allow graduates to go on to undertake the further training required in order to qualify to practise, in England and Wales, as a solicitor or a barrister.

In addition to the core knowledge required for a qualifying law degree, you will have the opportunity to study a wide range of specialist courses. The programme will equip you with practical transferable skills that will prepare you for future employment, both in the legal profession and in the wider professional environment.

You will benefit from presentations from guest speakers and networking events with employers, professional bodies and alumni that will help you with your career planning. You will also have access to workshops and events designed to assist you with your CV and job applications and in developing a professional digital presence.

The School of Law has good links with a number of employers in London, including law firms, barristers’ chambers and financial institutions. Opportunities may be available for LLB Hons Law students to apply for placements, internships and mentoring schemes with a variety of employers in the legal and regulatory sectors.

LLB Hons Law students are also able to apply to undertake pro bono work through various schemes run by the school. These include our Legal Advice Centre, winner of a 2015 LawWorks & Attorney General Student Pro Bono Award for its ‘tremendous impact on the community’. The centre enables the students selected to work closely with volunteer lawyers and the centre’s senior supervising solicitor to provide advice to the public.

The Innocence Project London is also run from the School of Law. Currently one of only ten international projects accepted as members of the US-based Innocence Network, and the only UK member, the project enables our students to apply to work on real cases concerning miscarriages of justice. This important work can lead to the submission of appeal applications to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

The school has a tradition of extracurricular activities, including a student-run Law Society. LLB students can apply to be selected for our client interviewing or mooting teams in order to further their skills and experience. Mooting is arguing a hypothetical case in a court setting. Our LLB Hons Law students were finalists in the OUP and BPP National Mooting Competition 2014–15.
