Administrative Law

Depending on the country where the degree is offered, an LLB Administrative law degree may be designated as an "LL.B", an acronym for Bachelor of Laws or the Latin Legum Baccalaureus. It is considered a first professional degree in the majority of common law jurisdictions and originated in England several hundred years ago.

What does an LLB in Administrative Law consist of?

Also called “regulatory law", administrative law deals with the rules and regulations controlling government agencies. Examples of government units subject to administrative law include social security/disability, immigration, taxation, environmental agencies and international trade. Administrative law is a highly complex set of laws fundamentally intended to prevent bureaucracies from monopolizing individual, family and community rights.

Cases involving administrative law are not heard in a traditional courtroom. They are presented initially to an administrative judge who hears both sides of the case before he or she provides a judgment. In most common law countries, litigants who are unsatisfied by the judgment can have their case retried in a higher court.

What are the benefits of an LLB in Administrative Law?

Administrative law is a highly specialized area of law that deals with legal codes, government regulations, agency rules and precedents. Students obtaining an LLB degree may expect to earn more than a criminal or civil attorney due to the amount of complex information with which the lawyer is expected to be familiar.

How much does it cost to take an LLB in Administrative Law?

Costs of obtaining an LL.B degree is nearly the same as a traditional law degree. Passing the bar exam is required and internships are sometimes mandatory before an administrative lawyer can begin working independently or with an administrative law firm.

The intensive 2-year LLB allows you to condense 3 years of study into 2 years, thereby accelerating your career development and saving you money. This course covers the key aspects of legal theory and practice at degree level. It equips graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level position in a wide range of areas requiring a law qualification. Employment This degree is clearly a natural choice for applicants considering a career as a solicitor, barrister, chartered legal executive or paralegal. Our Law graduates will hone a number of invaluable employability skills, such as: intellectual independence; reflective self-management; awareness of principles and values of law, justice and ethics; an understanding of legal theories that can be applied globally; problem-solving; excellent written and oral communication. Therefore there is a diverse array of employment opportunities for Law graduates in areas such as education, journalism, public relations, business and enterprise, or across the public sector. Professional Body recognition The course is recognised by the legal professional bodies as a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) exempting graduates from the Academic Stage of Training for students seeking to qualify as a solicitor or barrister of England and Wales. Students who complete the Civil Litigation and Client Care module, plus one of the other four practice-based modules, are eligible for admission as a Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx). This opportunity saves graduates one year of additional study. With CILEx Graduate Member status, our students will be able to use the designatory letters: GCILEx (therefore they would be LLB (Hons), GCILEx). Upon graduation our students who opt for CILEx Graduate Member status could immediately work in a law firm in roles such as a Trainee CILEx Lawyer, Paralegal or Legal Clerk. After completing 3 years of qualifying employment in a law firm, they will be admitted as a Fellow of CILEx (FCILEx) and a Chartered Legal Executive. Fellows can represent clients in court if they qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive Advocate. They can also dual qualify as a Solicitor, without having to complete a two-year training contract. Our LLB is one of only a handful in England and Wales which provides students with this option. Usually membership takes an additional year of study. So our LLB students who decide to pursue a career as a chartered legal executive can benefit from this very unique advantage! Key information We have September start dates for this course. There are two semesters each year. Students complete 2 x 30 credit modules each semester, enabling students to concentrate on fewer modules at a time. Modules are assessed in different ways, e.g. essays, problem questions, case studies, reports, moots, presentations and examinations. Fees Fees for 2016-17 UK/EU: £6,000 per year, equating to a total of £12,000 over the 2 years’ duration of the course. Fees for 2017-18 UK/EU: £6,150 per year, equating to a total of £12,300 over the 2 years’ duration of the course. Entry requirements Applicants normally require UCAS tariff points as below: Entry in Sep 2016: 300 UCAS tariff points Entry in Sep 2017: 120 UCAS tariff points Please note - The drop in the points requirement between the above years is due to UCAS changing their points tariff for courses starting from September 2017, rather than a change in grade requirements. For example, currently an 'A' grade at A-level would earn you 120 points. From 2017 that same 'A' grade would equate to 48 points. So, 300 points equates to three A-levels at grades BBB at A-level currently, but, the same BBB grades in 2017 would be 120 points. Hence the difference in the numbers above. To learn more about the new tariff points system click here. Applicants also require a GCSE Grade C or above in English Language (or equivalent). If a candidate meets the UCAS points requirements (but does not have GCSE English Language at Grade C or above), then they will also be required to pass our own internal English Language test (test and interview) in order to meet our entry requirements. (This only applies to UK, EU and EEA applicants. International applicants WILL require GCSE English Language at Grade C or above, or equivalent). Note: From 2017, English and Maths GCSEs will be graded from 9 to 1, rather than A* to G. All other GCSE subjects will follow with the new grading system in 2019. A current grade 'C' in the new system will be considered to be a '4'. Click here for a quick explanation of the new GCSE grading system from our blog. Applicants must have completed Year 11 (Key Stage 4) Secondary School, or equivalent, at least 2 years prior to the start of the course. Applicants for whom English is a second language require IELTS at 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each category). [-]

BBA-LLB (Hons) The innovatively conceived 5 year integrated B.B.A.LL.B. (Honours) Degree Program of ITM Law School integrates the study of law with management in a semester mode for enhancing the employability of ITM Law Students and for a stress free legal education in an era of specialty and super specialty subjects. This five year program gives students the intellectual foundations for legal study, and gives them the opportunity to focus their studies on areas of particular interest through advanced classes, clinics, moot courts and writing projects. ITM Law School had adopted the "clinical method" for exposing "the student to actual problems confronting him with actual people who are in actual trouble". Through clinical courses, students of ITM Law School are exposed not only to lawyering skills but also the essential values of the legal profession: provision of competent representation; promotion of justice, fairness, and morality; continuing improvement of the profession; and professional self-development. Getting a job after graduation is a real challenge, especially when one doesn’t have any work experience. The irony is: to get work experience one must first get a job. We consider ‘Internship’ as the only solution for this. Hence internship at ITM Law School is mandatory and is the main strategy for improving the ‘employability’ of our students. Internship at ITM Law School is compulsory for every student of B.B.A.LL.B. (Honours) Degree Program. The Students of ITM Law School will get enviable opportunities to intern at various institutions/Law firms / Courts / Banks / MNCs / Insurance Companies, etc., and to intern with eminent Lawyers and Judges.
