Master of Laws Degrees in Legal Research. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The Master of Laws (by Research) is offered to those with a professional law qualification (Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor or equivalent). Applications are required to have at least 65 per cent average and / or extensive professional experience. An applicant may be required to satisfy the Dean that they have the appropriate level of research skills to write a thesis of up to 50,000 words. Admission is on the basis of an approved research proposal and availability of appropriate supervision. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Master of Laws (by Research) program can be completed via a 50,000 word research thesis. While the Faculty can offer supervision in most areas of law, it has particular strengths in: Corporate and Commercial Law Criminal Law Constitutional Law Dispute Resolution International Trade Law Intellectual Property, Information Technology and E-Commerce PROGRAM STRUCTURE The Master of Laws (by Research) program is comprised of a 50,000 word research thesis, completed over two years full time. The LLM in Advanced Legal Studies offers the opportunity to create a personal programme of study by drawing from all the postgraduate modules offered in the LLM in International Development Law and Human Rights, the LLM in International Economic Law and the LLM in International Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation. Master of Laws Degrees in Legal Research. The LLM in Advanced Legal Studies offers the opportunity to create a personal programme of study by drawing from all the postgraduate modules offered in the LLM in International Development Law and Human Rights, the LLM in International Economic Law and the LLM in International Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation. Students may also draw upon an approved list of modules from outside of the school. The LLM in Advanced Legal Studies also involves a dissertation of 10,000 words on a topic to be agreed and prepared with guidance from an assigned supervisor. The course director will act in the role of “personal tutor” in relation to progress throughout the academic year of study. The director of Advanced Legal studies Dr Ming-Sung Kuo will provide assistance in constructing an appropriate programme of study for each individual student. In addition, to assist students in identifying, preparing for and writing a dissertation, students will also be required to attend research and writing skills sessions.
