A Master of Laws degree, or LLM., takes most scholars between one to two years to complete, pending enrollment status. Unlike other postgraduate degrees, most LLM programs do not require entrance exams prior to admission.

Students considering specializing their legal knowledge may be wondering, “What is an LLM in Private Law?” Those who study and practice private law are concerned with the legal relationships between individuals. As such, areas of interest tend to include but are not limited to: property, family, succession and contract laws. The development of soft skills and meditation strategies is often a critical component of studying private law, as many students will go on to interact with clients directly and settle disputes between citizens both inside and outside of courtrooms.

Successful students tend to be remarkable negotiators with well-honed research pens and analytical abilities. These traits are not only highly desirable in the job market but can also provide a great boon for managing personal disputes and finances.

Enrollment status and total program length often affect the price of earning an LLM in Private Law. Other potential factors include recitation fees and the student’s country of origin. Students should consider the cost of attendance for each program to ensure the program best meets their financial needs.

Combined with a Juris Doctor or LLB, job prospects for students are expansive and consistently growing. Although much of private law focuses on individual-to-individual litigation, many graduates with a specialty in private law can find jobs in the commercial sector as corporate associates, legal supervisors, corporate counsel and contract managers. Other jobs potentially available, some of which may require additional related professional degrees, include divorce lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants, estate planners, trust advisors and legal affair managers.

Private law tends to be focused on the national scale and thus programs, although plentiful globally, often require at least partial in-person attendance to earn your LLM in Private Law. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.
