Program Description

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) at IE Law School is uniquely positioned to immerse legal professionals in a fast-paced global environment. Defined by its comparative methodology and international orientation, the Master of Laws (LL.M.) provides students with practical knowledge of cross-border transactions and transnational law to prepare them for a career anywhere in the world. Students can graduate with a General LL.M or specialize in one of three major legal fields—International Business Law, International Dispute Resolution or Intellectual Property and Technology Law.

In addition to this highly specialized expertise, students will gain hard and soft skills in the areas of management, leadership, technology, communication and negotiation. Why study the Master of Laws (LL.M.)?

- Choose your LL.M. specialization

The program’s foundations are based on the essential elements of business law. Students can then choose to either study a General LL.M, allowing them to design their own degree as they pick and choose courses from different specialization areas, or define their degree by specializing in one of International Business Law, International Dispute Resolution, or Intellectual Property and Technology.

The specialization in International Business Law focuses on complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions that are commonplace within large multinationals. Students acquire a theoretical and practical understanding of these cross-border transactions to manage clients’ needs and expectations as a commercial lawyer.

The specialization in International Dispute Resolution LL.M. prepares students to become accomplished, versatile lawyers in the international business dispute resolution arena. It has a strong focus on cross-border litigation, parallel proceedings, international insolvency situations, international investment law and structured business mediation.

Students are introduced to the various domains of Intellectual Property and Technology Law while delving into the legal, technical and ethical challenges and opportunities associated with law, technology and innovation. They acquire leadership skills to thrive in a vibrant and transforming legal landscape.

- Expand your career globally

Enhance your scope with our exclusive partnership with BARBRI that allows LL.M. candidates to take the California Bar Examination or the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme (QLTS) to qualify as a lawyer in the US, England or Wales. In addition, participants of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) have the opportunity to experience life in the legal sector beyond the program. Through the Legal Clinic and moots like the Vis Moot Court, our students graduate with a strong network, prepared to work side by side with clients and be the next leaders in legal practice and innovation at a global level.

- Personalized guidance from your own mentor

Master of Laws (LL.M.) students have the exclusive opportunity to receive ten months of personal mentoring from an experienced legal professional. Over the course of ten months, these legal professionals will act as personal mentors to students. They will offer their invaluable advice, support and insights, as well as enhance students’ professional network. As legal professionals who have already carved out their own successful career paths, they are best placed to guide students as they transition from university studies to professional life.
