LLM - Justice, Democracy, and Legal Rights Concentration University of Illinois - College of Law

The Justice, Democracy, & Legal Rights concentration offers a directed, optional program of study for LL.M. students. Students have the opportunity to receive specialized training in the field and select the classes that are most relevant to their areas of expertise. A concentration designation will appear on the transcript, giving students a competitive advantage in the legal employment market. Students retain the ability to elect a few courses outside of their concentration in other areas of interest or to prepare for the bar exam.

To earn the concentration, students must complete a course in Constitutional Law in addition to ten credit hours in classes of their choice within the concentration. Students may add a wide array of courses, such as Criminal Procedure, Family Law, Immigration Law, Environmental Law, International Human Rights Law, Labor Law, and many more.

The Graduate College admission requirements and English language proficiency requirements apply. Students are not required to take the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Students are admitted on an individual basis according to a review of their prior accomplishments with an emphasis on academic achievement.

• TOEFL or IELTS score reported from ETS or IELTS (or a Duolingo English Test score from February 1, 2020 through August 1, 2023), if applicable

International Applicants

All international degree-seeking applicants are required to submit the results of the TOEFL or IELTS or Duolingo as evidence of English proficiency unless they qualify for an exemption. Official scores are required to be submitted directly from the testing agency. All scores must be dated within two years of the beginning of the proposed admission term.
