More good news, law students.  Earlier this summer we learned about increased employment rates for law grads.  According to a new survey just released, there’s going to be an uptick in first-year associate hiring at law firms across the US this year.   

Robert Half Legal conducted phone interviews with lawyers at firms in the US and Canada.   According to an article in The American Lawyer, here’s what Robert Half executive director Jamy Sullivan found:

“In a sign of overall confidence across the industry, two-thirds of lawyers said that their firms hiring plans for the next 12 months were unchanged, despite challenging market conditions, while just 7 percent of lawyers said their firm would decrease the number of spaces for first-year associates.”  

Sullivan said that firms are looking to staff up in areas such as litigation, commercial law and real estate.  

Law students likely to be hired? Sullivan said that “new associates who were ranked at the top of their law school class and possess in-demand attributes such as technology proficiency, business acumen, interpersonal ability and team collaboration skills are highly marketable.”
