Introduction

The University of Klagenfurt is a young, vibrant & innovative university, located at the intersection of three diverse cultures. Since its foundation in the year 1970, it has established itself as the leading academic educational institution in the region, and as a hub for the acquisition, exchange, and transfer of knowledge across the entire Alps-Adriatic Region.

The global QS World University Ranking "Top 50 Under 50" ranks the University of Klagenfurt among the best 150 young – under the age of 50 – universities worldwide. In the field of Computer Science, the University of Klagenfurt achieved third place among Austrian universities in the 201-250 range in the THE World University Rankings 2020.

Future-oriented degree programs, outstanding achievements in teaching and research, numerous cooperations at home and abroad, ideal conditions for the advancement of young researchers, and a one-of-a-kind campus nestled between a Renaissance city and Lake Wörthersee give the university its distinctive character.

More than 11,600 students pursue their studies and research on the campus, including around 2,000 from 100 different nations across the globe.

Faculty of Technical Sciences

The Faculty of Technical Sciences has been in existence since 2007. Staff-student ratios in the Faculty are favorable to those at many other universities, which promotes valuable, ongoing exchange and dialogue between teaching staff and students. As a result, the Faculty offers teaching tailored to students’ specific requirements, which focuses on the latest scientific findings, whilst ensuring a large practical component thanks to research projects with companies.

The key objectives of the Faculty are:

  • to give our students an outstanding education with the best possible foundation in practical and theoretical science for their future careers
  • to achieve excellent scientific results with high international significance
  • to draw on outstanding research and teaching as a basis for founding successful companies, building new businesses, and creating jobs at established companies in the region.

Campus & student life

The University of Klagenfurt is located in Carinthia, Austria’s southernmost province. Home to around 100,000 inhabitants, the city of Klagenfurt is considered one of the most liveable cities in Austria. The campus is international, diverse, and features modern infrastructure. The University of Klagenfurt is one of the few universities to offer a broad spectrum of degree programs, while still retaining its manageable size. The campus is fresh, green, and well arranged. There is a variety of cafés and food outlets around the campus of the University of Klagenfurt and the University Sports Institute’s (USI) wide variety of sports offers the perfect outlet for the stress that accompanies study and exams.

Different accommodation options are also available within a short distance from the university. The campus also has excellent transport links to Klagenfurt city center and it only takes a few minutes to reach the Klagenfurt Strandbad beach or Europapark.

The university is a wonderful place to study, enjoy culture, and meet friends.
