Students and Programmes

Utrecht University counts over 30,000 students from 118 countries. You can choose among 10 English-taught Bachelor's programmes and almost 100 English-taught Master's programmes - the widest range of English-taught graduate programmes in the Netherlands.
Bachelor's programmes are 3-year programmes leading to a Bachelor's of Arts degree (BA) or Bachelor's of Sceince degree (BSc). Master’s Programme at Utrecht University is a 1- or 2-year programme leading to a Science degree (MSc), Arts degree (MA) or Laws degree (LLM). On top of a Master's Programme you can take part in the Young Innovators Programme: a selective 15 ECTS honours course at graduate level.

Our master’s programme in Public International Law (PIL) at Utrecht University will equip you with a broad range of tools to address current legal concerns facing the global population. Our PIL programme has been chosen as the Best Master Programme in the Netherlands in the field of International Law by the highly regarded Dutch Elsevier Guide on the Best Degrees for two years in a row (2013 and 2014). PIL is a flexible programme that offers you many options, both during your study period and in your career possibilities post-graduation. In today’s globalised world, public international law addresses complex, challenging issues that touch everyone’s lives. In our PIL programme, you will explore common themes of public international law with the option to take a specialisation in Human Rights or Environment and Law of the Sea. You will build relevant and current skills by studying actual cases facing the International Court of Justice and other international dispute-settlement institutions.
