Over the last 40 years, Lancashire Law School has developed an outstanding international reputation for delivering graduates that enter the professional world with the skills employers are looking for. The School offers a full portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in both law and criminology. Our undergraduate law courses are all validated by the legal professions as qualifying law degrees enabling students to pursue the professional side of training as either a solicitor or barrister. Our criminology courses provide students with an opportunity to critique the criminal law and criminal justice system from a social, economic and cultural viewpoint and to pursue careers within the broader public and community based services. The School also offers a wide range of Continuing Professional Development opportunities, many of which are tailored to individual stakeholder needs.

RESEARCH

As a Law School we complement our commitment to academic and professional legal education with high quality research activity. Research staff have entered and achieved excellent results in all national research exercises since the 1990s and our research scholarship continues to impact on court decisions, policy development and law reform in the UK, Europe and more broadly in the international arena. The expertise of our staff informs not only our undergraduate programmes but also our taught and research based postgraduate degrees.

The LLM Financial and Commercial Law is available to students from both a legal and non-legal background. Our students have typically been law graduates, business graduates, legal professionals and people working in commercial fields both nationally and internationally. Within finance and commerce law is a fast-changing and increasingly complex area. This postgraduate course provides students with analytical and reflective skills and expertise in financial and commercial law . It provides a learning experience which will enable students to develop their academic ability and enhance their performance in employment and further develop their career opportunities. It provides the successful candidate with a recognised postgraduate qualification in Financial and Commercial Law . 94% of law students said that overall they were satisfied with their course. Compulsory Modules Dissertation Advanced Legal Systems International Company and Commercial Law Banking and financial Services Regulation Learning Environment And Assessment Teachings and Learning is predominantly through weekly synchronous and asynchronous online workshops. The learning ethos is to draw on the range and experience of our diverse student cohort Our extensive e-law library facility gives access to many legal and academic sources from within and outside the jurisdiction. Modules are assessed by coursework which comprises of a 1000 word essay plan which feeds into a 3000 word essay. This method of assessment has proved very popular with students as it provides useful feedback for their final submissions.
